Faces of the vote

Laura McCarthy, social worker, 45, voted via mail-in ballot, so that she could volunteer on Election Day. She said that it is important to vote this year to “maintain the Supreme Courts.” Over her lifetime, McCarthy finds voting to be “more and more urgent” than in the past. 

Thelma Helich, a Mt. Lebanon resident, stands outside of Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center on Tuesday, Nov. 4. She was there to hand out fliers to incoming voters about the 2025 Democratic choices for Allegheny County and Mt. Lebanon.

Georgia Blotzer, a volunteer with the Election Protection Services, checks in with the Ream Rec Building on Mount Washington, Pittsburgh after a polling machine broke down. Blotzer is a non-partisan volunteer to help ensure there are no problems with voters and polling places, November 4, 2025. She described her job by stating, “People have to be trained, pick up materials, make sure everything works and that no one is intimidated. Most importantly, that everyone feels the same welcoming environment.”
